John Waller

Program Manager & Instructor

John Waller is a Bronx native and recent Tufts University graduate, earning a Master of Science in Bioengineering and a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering. His mentorship journey began at home, caring for his younger siblings, and was further shaped at Tufts through involvement in the Black Student Union, Africana Center, Center for STEM Diversity, and the Theta Iota Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. His experiences deepened his awareness of the challenges Black students face at predominantly white institutions. Today, he is passionate about preparing young Black men to not only enter these spaces, but succeed within them.

Jonathan Max Guy

Program Instructor

My name is Jonathan Max, and I am a Senior at Fordham University. I am studying for a Business Administration major with a concentration in Finance and Marketing. I am thrilled to be a part of The Boys’ Room as I have lived experiences and can relate to many underrepresented students. As a black male who has attended PWIs across the country, including North Carolina, Ohio, Connecticut, and now New York, I know how it feels to be marginalized and know what our students are going through. It is a great honor to be a part of such a meaningful organization and am excited to give back. What I like to do in my spare time? I'm glad you asked. You can find me playing basketball with my friends, exploring NYC, or singing my favorite R&B and Soul hits in my free time! One fun fact about me is that I am 6 foot 7!

Nia Scott

Program Instructor & Book Club Facilitator

Our book club Co-facilitator, Nia, is a student of Psychology at Fordham University. Her passion lies in exploring the workings of the creation of positive self identity especially in black youth. She uses her fervor to fuel her as she works with the youth department of the New York Public Library and nurtures the young minds of our Boys’ Room program. Though her yearning for answers has lead her to academic spaces beyond her home in Jamaica such as, Costa Rica and now New York, her life's purpose still lies in the social and cultural development of her home island.

Taiyo Myrthil

Program Instructor

Taiyo Myrthil, one of our program instructors, was born and raised in Brooklyn and is excited to work with students in his hometown of New York City. From Prep for Prep to Saint Ann’s to Stanford University, he has navigated predominantly white institutions—and programs that provide students of color access to them—for over a decade. With a degree in Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity (and a minor in Music), a passion for education, and fond memories of the mentors that supported him throughout his academic career, Taiyo is looking forward to sharing his experiences and help foster spaces that encourage younger Black students on similar journeys to learn, grow, and find belonging through building connections with each other.

Dominique M. Fowler

Program Instructor

Given Dr. Dom's experiences growing up and while attending an HBCU and two PWIs, he became a Program Instructor because he wants to support young Black and Brown boys along their journey, something he wishes he had at their age. So much so that he studied the impact of cross-racial friendships on Black male graduates’ social engagement during their undergraduate years at a predominantly White institution. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.. He believes in authenticity and approaches his work and life with energy and creativity. In his spare time, he enjoys cooking, music, DIY projects, and spending time with his dog, Stony.

Dylan Bell

Program Instructor

Dylan is an International Relations student at Tufts University with a strong focus on global business and personal finance. He is driven to use this knowledge to help future generations achieve financial success. As a graduate of an independent secondary school, he is committed to mentoring and empowering students with similar backgrounds. This dedication is reflected in his extensive peer leadership experience, where he consistently guides and inspires others through service. A lover of books, sports, and music, Dylan balances his academic pursuits with his diverse interests.

Alfred Brandon Woodward

Program Instructor & Book Club Facilitator

Alfred “Brandon” Woodward, a Flint, Michigan native, graduated valedictorian from Hamady High School before attending Howard University’s School of Business as a Legacy Scholar, studying International Business with a focus on Emerging Markets. He spent over eight years at Goldman Sachs in corporate finance, working in Regulatory Operations, DEI program management, and diversity recruiting. He later served as Senior Manager of Community Engagement and DEI at Lime Connect, a nonprofit supporting individuals with visible and invisible disabilities, where he led partnerships across the U.S. and Canada and supported a network of over 30,000 members. Alfred is currently pursuing a degree in International Affairs at Columbia University, focusing on Development and Governance. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, exploring global cuisines, and engaging with diverse cultures. He is also a Spring 2015 initiate of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. As a recipient of Black male mentorship, Alfred views his work with The Boys’ Room as an opportunity to give back and help uplift the next generation of leaders.
